Belarus a anunțat luni, 28 iunie, că își suspendă participarea la Parteneriatul Estic cu Uniunea Europeană (UE). Acest lucru este afirmat într-o declarație a serviciului de presă al Ministerului de Externe din Belarus, informează BelTA. În context, Ministerul de Externe de la Chișinău și-a exprimat regretul după ce autoritățile din Belarus au anunțat că își suspendă participarea la Parteneriatul Estic cu UE. Prin urmare, sa decis reducerea nivelului de participare a Belarusului la această inițiativă la un nivel de experți”, a explicat ministrul de externe Vladimir Makei la timpul. Parteneriatul estic reunește UE și șase țări post-sovietice: Azerbaidjan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova și Ucraina.

Министерство иностранных дел и евроинтеграции Молдовы (МИДЕИ) выразило сожаление в связи с решением властей Беларусь покинуть «Восточное партнерство». «Сожалеем о том, что Беларусь решила покинуть „Восточное партнерство“. ***Программа «Восточное партнерство» была запущена 7 мая 2009 года на саммите Евросоюза в Праге. «Восточное партнерство» — программа сотрудничества ЕС с шестью постсоветскими странами: Арменией, Азербайджаном, Беларусью, Грузией, Молдовой и Украиной. При этом «Восточное партнерство» не предусматривает членства в ЕС, идея проекта в том, чтобы шесть стран-соседей могли сблизиться с ЕС, в той степени, в которой каждая из стран этого хочет.
